“Blakey do it”

Dear Blake,

Yesterday something happened that worried me a little and broke my heart, but also made me feel proud.  We were out shopping with Gigi and Auntie Kitty and you got tired of being in your stroller.  When this happens I let you out usually try to hold your hand because you will take off and start running away.  So I unstrapped you and let you out and thought you would start running so I held onto your hand and you started pulling away.  I said “You need to hold Mama’s hand.”  You kept pulling away and starting to cry.  Finally you said “Blakey do it.”  I think I almost started crying right then and there.  I didn’t realize that you could walk on your own and would probably stay close to me if I gave you the chance.  I never had given you the chance before.  I’m always thinking that you are not ready for certain things yet, but you really are beyond ready.  I need to learn to let go and let you try things on your own.

Those words will stay with me for a long time.  You were just trying to tell me you can do things.  You were trying to say “Trust me Mama, I can do it.”

Love,

Mama

  1. I love the fact that you realized “I never had given you the chance before.” Hard to accept that he is getting older and no longer needs mama as much, but it gets even more fun!

  2. Oh man! These “little,” moments are monumental and forever burned in the minds of us Mamas. I almost started crying for you mid read. Just the inclusion of his, “Blakey do it.” So hard to let go!
