No matter what

Dear Blake,

Today is the last day of the writing challenge that I’m participating in.  However, I will keep writing to you every so often because this will be a gift to your when you’re older. I haven’t decided how I’m going to give this to you yet. I think when you turn 18 maybe or when you go to college.  I might even turn it into a book, but you know me, I’ll come up with some cute elaborate scheme to give it to you. But I really hope you enjoy reading my letters to you. I hope your know I love your very much.  No matter what.

Love,
Mama

Last day of break

Dear Blake,

Today is the last day off sping break…I’ve had so much fun with you this last week!  We have done so much everyday. Today we are going to your friend Ella’s first birthday party. We always say that Ella is your girlfriend, well, because she’s the only little girl you know that age.
Since its finally spring, maybe we’ll take you to the park later!
I love you and will miss you when I go back to work.

Mama

White Fence Farm

Dear Blake,

Today we are going to a place from my childhood. We are going to White Fence Farm to have dinner with my whole family!  This place is very old but it reminds me if when I was little. They have a petting zoo and games in the lobby. The games are very old…there is a chicken game where you put in a quarter and the chicken lays an egg. Inside the egg is a prize. There is a fortune telling machine and we always said it was like the machine from the movie “Big.”
They are known for their fried chicken and corn fritters…oh my gosh!  I wish you would eat these things but we will probably have to bring other things for you because you won’t eat that.
One day when you’re older I hope this place is still around because I want you too have the same fun memories of going there.

Love,
Mama

Exposure

Dear Blake,

The theme of these week has been “exposure to new things.”  I have been trying to do a new thing with you every day off my spring break. Yesterday your Dadda and I took you to the Dupage Children’s Museum and it was fantastic!  There was so much to do and see and explore. It was the best children’s museum I’ve ever seen!  Your favorite exhibits was the giant water table with toys and rubber ducks in it. You also liked the glow in the dark sticks. I can’t wait to bring you back this summer!  Today we are going to visit great grandma and bring her lunch.
Tonight while you are sleeping, Mama has wine club with her friends. We just started it last month and decided that someone would host it at their house each month. My Mom used to have bunco night once a month with her friends. When she had it at our house it was the best because she made all sorts of food and we got to sneak down and have some of it. Then we would play board games with my Dad while we listened to all the ladies downstairs laugh and talk.  Maybe one day when Mama hosts wine club you will be so excited to sneak downstairs and get food and then go upstairs to play games with Dadda.

Mama

22 months old!

Dear Blake,

Today you are 22 months old!  I can’t believe in 2 months you will be 2.  We won’t be counting your age by months anymore. You will be a big boy.
We are celebrating by taking you to the Dupage Children’s Museum!  I heard it’s supposed to be a great museum…Maybe we will even visit my old college nearby and walk around downtown Naperville if it’s nice.
Here are some things you are doing at 22 months:
– eat with a spoon and fork from a bowl
– drink from a straw
– dance
– say lots of words and sentences that have 5 or 6 words
– read books
– know all your letters and numbers and starting to learn letter sounds
– loves balloons
– says I love you
– play fetch with Tike

And many other things!

Love,
Mama

Not the plan

Dear Blake,

Let me just start by saying the people at Starbucks are so nice…
Yesterday when I took you to the mall to meet Auntie Kitty, it just did not go as planned.
First you didn’t want to go in the stroller.  So I let you walk.
Then you didn’t want to wear your gloves but it was cold out.  I put them on anyway and you screamed.
You didn’t like any of the lunch I bought for you.
Everytime we walked into a store you stopped at the door and said “no, no.”
You wanted to ride one of the little rides but then when I put you on it you screamed no that you wanted to come out.
And to top it all off when we were getting Starbucks, you were pretending to pour your juice into a glass cup and the glass fell off the shelf and broke all over…the people at Starbucks were so nice. I insisted that I pay for the glass but they kept saying no it happens all the time don’t worry about it.

Sometimes things don’t go as planned but we sure had a good time still…it was very entertaining.  I still will take you places no matter what happens because you will learn how to behave and you do have some fun.

Love,
Mama

Busy day

Dear Blake,

One of your books is called Busy Day. Well yesterday we certainly had a busy day. I took you to all sorts of fun places. We had a mommy/son date. I took you to lunch and we had your favorite food of cholis. Then I got you some strawberry ice cream at cupid candies. Then we went to the mall and walked around and Gigi met us!  I think you had a lot of fun!
Today we are going to tot time at the library where they will sing songs and read stories.  After that we are going to meet Auntie Kitty and visit!
Busy day #2.

Love,
Mama

Mommy/son date

Dear Blake,

Today is the first day of spring break so I decided that I was going to take you somewhere or do something fun each day of break.  Today we are going on a Mommy/son date.  I decided that since your favorite food is mostachioli, “chiolis” and I love Noodles and Co. that I would take you to the new one that just opened near our house.  I can’t wait for you to wake up from your nap to go on our “date.”  Maybe after we eat, I will take you to the mall and go on the merry go round, “round and round.”  I hope you love our date today!  I love spending this time with you!

Love,

Mama

Does it get easier?

Dear Blake,

Does it get easier?

Does it get easier to be away from you all day?
Today I have to go to a shower and will be gone all day. I made sure to be ready before you got up so I could spend some time with you before I leave. But it’s still hard.

Does it get easier knowing I’m missing out on everything you’ll be doing today?
I still get sad about being away from you.

Does it get easier?

Love,
Mama

P.S.- I can’t wait to be home with you before you go to bed. I love you!

No shots

Dear Blake,
Last night Dadda hurt his ankel pretty bad playing basketball so he’s home from work today. We had to take him to the doctor so we dropped him off and I took you grocery shopping by myself. I knew I had to be prepared so I got you a donut at the Dunkin donuts in the store so you can eat it while we shopped. Well that lasted about 5 minutes until we got to the deli. You were done with your donut and luckily the nice man asked if you wanted a piece of cheese. Of course!
So that lasted another 2 minutes. So I whipped out my phone and you got to watch videos I’ve taken off you. That lasted until I was done shopping.
Dadda called and I had to go pick him up, he was done. I payed and loaded the groceries and you in the car.
I’m pretty proud of myself to do that all by myself with you. It doesn’t seem hard, but it really is.
When we picked up Dadda you said “Dadda no shots today.” You’re right buddy, no shots today. You were worried about Dadda. He’s going to be alright.
Love,
Mama
